Red Door Montessori - Home Education Support for Children

Opening the Door to the Child's Natural Development

Red Door Montessori is a small, nurturing home education setting where children are welcomed with warmth, kindness and genuine respect.

Our environment is calm, homely and thoughtfully prepared, offering a gentle space for curiosity, creativity and meaningful exploration.

I believe childhood should be joyful, purposeful and supported with care - and that each child deserves to feel safe, inspired and truly known.

Home Education Backed by Montessori

For years, the Red Door has opened to welcome children into a space built on warmth, safety, and care. As the latest cohort of children in the community have grown, and parents have made the decision to move away from mainstream education, I am stepping into an exciting new chapter.

Home education is a beautiful, deeply intentional choice - but it shouldn't have to be a solitary journey. I provide a prepared environment where your child can bridge the gap between home learning and and a collaborative peer group.

Behind our door you will find a vibrant community where mixed-aged children collaborate on deep project-based research, master advanced Montessori materials that turn abstract concepts into concrete understanding, and step out into the wild every Friday for full-day nature expeditions.

Our Montessori Approach

The Montessori pholosophy shapes everything we do. We support each child as an individual, allowing them to learn at their own pace, follow their interests and develop independence with confidence.

Children thrive in mixed-aged communities. Younger children are supported with gentle modelling and older children grow into thoughtful leaders - both experiences helping to build empathy, resiliance and social understanding.

Our approach is rooted in:

  • respect for the child
  • trust in their natural curiosity
  • freedom within clear, consistent boundaries
  • responsibility and purposeful activity
  • community, compassion and collaboration

Cosmic Education

As children move into the second plane of development (around age 6), their imagination expands and their questions grow bigger and deeper. Cosmic education meets this beautifully.

It offers children a sense of connection: to the world, to humanity and to the unfolding story of the universe. Through rich stories, hands-on materials and inspiring projects, children begin to see how everything is interrelated - and how they, too, have a meaningful role to play.

The Great Lessons

Our year is interspersed with five dramatic, story-filled lessons which spark awe, wonder and enless lines of enquiry:

  • The Story of the Universe
  • The Coming of Life
  • The Coming of Humans
  • The Story of Writing
  • The Story of Numbers

From these stories flows a rich curriculum of history, geography, biology, language, mathematics, art, music and research.

Nature Adventure Fridays

At Red Door Montessori, we believe that some of the most meaningful learning happens beyond four walls. Our Nature Adventure Fridays provide children with regular opportunities to explore the natural world, develop resilience, and deepen their understanding of their place within it.

Through visits to local parks, woodlands, beaches and green spaces, children are encouraged to observe, question and discover. Whether identifying plants and wildlife, creating nature journals, following maps, building shelters, or simply enjoying the changing seasons, each adventure nurtures curiosity, independence and a sense of wonder.

Nature Adventure Fridays embody the spirit of Montessori Cosmic Education, helping children develop an appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living things. They learn not only about the world around them, but also about their responsibility as thoughtful caretakers of it.

"There must be provision for the child to have contact with nature; to understand and appreciate the order, harmony and beauty of nature," - Maria Montessori
